WASHINGTON Memo to President Barack Obama and the debt negotiators: You can save $13 billion by fixing a glitch in the new health care law.
That amount may pale in comparison to the “big deal” the president’s looking for, but negotiators have got to start somewhere to reach the goal of cutting deficits by $4 trillion over a decade.
Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks has launched a program called Walking for Fitness that is focused on helping families establish better lifestyle habits.
The program is free and runs through Aug. 13. Participants meet at Druid Hill Park Reservoir at 9 a.m. Saturdays.
Experts hand out nutritional information and offer fitness demonstrations and wellness checks, as well as healthy snacks.
About 50 people already are registered and the city is looking for more. All ages are welcome, but be prepared for some exercising.
“The results indicate that the strengthening intervention was successful in reducing pain, which corresponded to improved mechanics,” said Dierks, associate professor of physical therapy in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. “The leg was going through more motion, suggesting that the (pain) guarding mechanism was reduced, and coordination or control of many of these peak or maximum angles in the leg were improved in that they were getting closer to occurring at the same time.”
