Under blue skies and a bright spring sun, more than 2,200 runners from Central New York and across the nation completed the 33rd annual Mountain Goat Run on Sunday morning.
The race is a grueling 10-mile trek through the hills of the city of Syracuse and organizers said more than 3,000 people registered to run, the biggest field ever for the Goat.
Max King, of Bend, Ore., and a Cornell University alum, defended his title, winning this year’s Goat with a time of 49 minutes and 2 seconds. He won the 2010 Mountain Goat with a time of 51 minutes, 44 seconds.
The top female finisher this year was Meagen Krifchin, of Ithaca, with a time of 59 minutes, 6 seconds.
The weather for this year’s Goat cooperated more than it did last year, when temperatures crept into the 80s and humidity skyrocketed, which caused lots of breathing and air quality troubles for runners and even sent some to local hospitals.
Temperatures were in the low to mid-60s on Sunday morning.
