Study: HIV risks rise with some birth control

ATLANTA In what’s being called the first research of its kind, a study found that HIV-infected women in Africa are more likely to spread the AIDS virus if they use hormone-based birth control.

The women studied were about twice as likely to transmit HIV if they were on the pill or taking a hormone shot like Depo-Provera, compared to those not on the such birth control.

Cancer, memory loss top boomers’ health concerns

WASHINGTON Baby boomers say their biggest health fear is cancer. Memory loss comes in second. But heart disease and diabetes should be atop that list, too, given the size of boomers’ waistlines.

A new poll finds baby boomers are more obese than other generations, setting them up for unhealthy senior years.

Fixing glitch in Obama’s health law saves $13B

WASHINGTON Memo to President Barack Obama and the debt negotiators: You can save $13 billion by fixing a glitch in the new health care law.

That amount may pale in comparison to the “big deal” the president’s looking for, but negotiators have got to start somewhere to reach the goal of cutting deficits by $4 trillion over a decade.

Judge blocks NYC pregnancy center disclosure law
